This grant expands United Theological Seminary’s work in its Eco-Justice program, established in 2022.

The purpose of this project is two-fold: firstly (a) building faculty member’s capacities to teach on climate science and (b) inviting experts on climate science to give guest lectures in classes, which in turn would strengthen students’ capabilities to respond to climate change as they live out their callings; secondly, bringing together academics, community, and congregations to offer holistic programming in an event dedicated to water (“Spirit of Water”) and that addresses the climate crisis in positive and adaptive ways.

Additionally, United’s Leadership Center for Social Justice has a cohort program that provides sixteen pastors a year an opportunity to learn together and to pilot a social justice program in their community; one of our four focus areas is the environment. Funding through this grant increases our ability to offer scientifically based resources to this group of influential religious leaders.
