Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary builds literacy and breaks down polarization around a wide range of climate science topics through their project, “Changing the Climate Conversation.” The team of Drs. William West and Rebecca Edwards, in partnership with Texas Interfaith Power & Light, provide an open format lunch and learn series to students, faculty, staff, and the local public. The curriculum pairs climate science topics – such as radiation, greenhouse gases, atmospheric circulation, ocean currents, and climate models, projections, and proxy data, among others – alongside theological or pastoral topics and becomes a resource relevant for future use in classrooms and congregations. In addition to on-campus panel discussions about the science behind our understanding of climate, the grant supports a student field trip to the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.
